Contemporary Handmade Artisan Jewelry By Kim O’Brien

Tell Us Something About You And Your Jewelry
I make shiny objects with dashes of color. My jewelry pushes the limits if function and color.

What Kind Of Materials Are You Using?
Sterling silver, fine silver and torch fired enamels

What Got You Started Jewelry Crafting?
I took a jewelry class while getting my BFA at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. Within a year I changed my major from Art Education to Jewelry/Metals. I was smitten and refused to look back.

How and/or Where Do You Sell Your Jewelry?
I sell most of my jewelry at a local Rhode Island store called Craftland. I’m not sure how the shoppers find me out of 70 other artists but they do. My jewelry sells like hotcakes there. Aside from Craftland, my other brick and mortar stores are General 54 in Montréal and Worcester Craft Center.

Of course I sell on etsy and supermarket too. I participate in craft fairs and am currently preparing for a few bigs ones I am proud to have gotten into.

What Is Your Source of Inspiration?
My jewelry is influenced heavily on nature and the Art Nouveau movement. I love to play with textures on metal and seeing how different techniques pick up reflections of color and light. I prefer to make one of a kind pieces, playing around with piece after piece leaving some ideas behind and taking other ideas along to blend with the new.

Why Handmade Jewelry?
