Joyful Glass Jewelry By Manuela Wutschke

I graduated with a degree in Geography and German Literature in 1986 and worked for several years as a teacher. Always interested in the arts I finally attended an art college, by correspondence, and over a two year period I could improve my skills in aquarelle and acrylic painting.
In the summer of 2004 I discovered the art of glass beadmaking. Creating unique wonderful art in my studio has become a real passion for me. I love to take a painterly approach to glass using bold and brilliant colors and exploring a variety of techniques creating a painting in motion of colorful abstractions of flora and fauna using my intuition while working on surface design as a collage of shards, murrine, dots, a variety of stringer and twisties, layering colors and also playing with the ability to create depth and interest by working with transparent and opaque areas.
After a long time making beads I started 2009 making jewelry when I got the invitation to be part of the Bead Invitational of the Pismo Fine Art Gallery in Denver. I have the most beautiful job of the world and today I am happy to be a fulltime glass artist.

What Kind Of Materials Are You Using?
I am using only high quality materials – italian and american glass, fine silver, pmc and sterling silver, sometimes precious stones.

What Got You Started Jewelry Crafting?
I guess it was the pmc class I attended 2008 in France with Kate McKinnon. Making my own silver opened new ways and gave me a lot of ideas and made me want to design jewelry.

How and/or Where Do You Sell Your Jewelry?
I am selling primarly through the Internet on ebay and Etsy and in Galleries as:

PISMO Fine Art Glass Gallery, Denver, USA
Artemani – Art Gallery, Lübeck, Germany
Eisch – Glass Gallery, Frauenau, Germany
and at craft shows – for example in
La Foire du Verre – Belgium
Flame on – Holland
Hamburg and Sars Poteries, France

What Is Your Source of Inspiration?
It’s the material itself, this symbiosis with the flame, this mystery called glass.
Creating a small wonderful world in a bead is so exciting – you have so many possibilities to fantasize to the fullest.
It’s simply magic and inspiring.

Why Handmade Jewelry?
That´s simple – because it is unique and beautiful.
