Contemporary Jewellery By Kirstin Moore

My jewellery is primarily concept led, I often have an idea or something to say and use jewellery as a medium to channel these notions. I create jewellery that works with the body, using jewellery as wearable small scale sculpture.

What Kind Of Materials Are You Using?
I often use silver as my primary medium although if the design of the piece leads me to a different medium then I will use that. Recently my Regency Collection has led me to use semi precious stones and freshwater pearls combined with silver.

What Got You Started Jewelry Crafting?
I became interested in jewellery whilst studying as a painter at art college. I discovered that more of my works looked like jewellery designs than anything else. This led me to take on an apprenticeship in a manufacturing jewellers and studying a BA(Hons) in Jewellery.

How and/or Where Do You Sell Your Jewelry?
My website is the main place that I sell my work, www.kirstinmoore.com, but I also sell through folksy, cherry picked for you and sense of fashion.
Also, i havce a selection of work in some retail outlets and craft/gift shops.

What Is Your Source of Inspiration?
I find inspiration all around me, I especially draw influence from the human body, its form, the negative space it creates and how jewellery can react with it. I enjoy looking at the interplay between jewellery and the wearer, what the jewellery means to the person and their reason for wearing it. I have previously created a large range of work based on how jewellery is used to increase a person’s attractiveness and so the jewellery itself became a tool to physically encourage flirting between people. My most recent collection was inspired by the notion of fairies and how, as an adult female, we feel that we need to dismiss our childish love of all things enchanted. This collection, entitled “Enchantment” was created to secretly celebrate that mystical world by creating abstract forms from fairies, thus enabling the wearer to express their love for fairies but not in a literal, easily recognisable sense.

Why Handmade Jewelry?
Handmade jewellery is unique, each piece differs slightly from the next and becomes a personal piece for the wearer and creator.
